Tips on importing jewelry from Italy
November 1, 2002
U.S. Customs regulations require that all shipments valued in excess of $2000.00 be entered in the USA on formal customs entry. Brokers are available in every port of entry to assist with this process.
Terms of delivery from Italian firms are identical to those of other international suppliers.

All merchandise entering the U.S. must be marked (either stamped or by hangtag) with the country of origin.
As with most U.S. jewelry suppliers, terms of payment follow individual company policies. Usual forms include: letter of credit; cash against documents c/o your bank; international bank draft; credit.
Prices quoted by a manufacturer usually reflect both workmanship and price of gold- subject to the daily fixing on the international market. Freight, insurance and brokerage should be considered separately.
The price of gold for a given order would be determined on the day of sale if a deposit equal to the price of fine gold was paid at the time. Otherwise, the gold price is generally fixed on the date of invoice.
Chain manufacturers usually have minimum order requirements and deal in large-volume production and sales. Supplier of hand-made and gem-set jewelry are likely to sell single pieces in consideration of their higher value added and workmanship.
